"To educate students to serve others and to care for others" is a salient element in the school mission of Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College. 'Community Services' and 'Engineering Hope Project' are school programmes to achieve this objective since our school commencement. Our first tour to Qingyuan in Guangdong Province during Easter Holiday in March 2005, which comprised 35 teachers and students, has further realized our education ideals.

Students and teachers told me in excitement that the tour was educational, meaningful and gratifying. The first hand experience of teaching and getting along with students in the poverty stricken areas is memorable to all. The scene with children who are much deprived of education materials and daily necessities but still strive hard to learn in school has move the hearts of our students. They come to realize they are lucky to be much better off in life and are determined to work hard and treasure more what they have.

The success of the project is attributable to the thorough and thoughtful planning conducted by the teachers involved. The pre-trip, the series of briefings, the care and guidance for students throughout the whole process are impressive. My appreciation and gratitude are sincerely conveyed to them. Teachers' very positive feedback and their determination to continue our 'Engineering Hope Project' are encouraging. We shall join hand in hand to work towards our vision in providing our students with quality 'affective education' and 'love education' which play an important role in our all round education ideal.

The farewell morning assembly of Form 5 was memorable and sentimental. The film strips recalled sweet memories in the past two years which was filled with laughter, fun and struggle.

Students sang graduation songs with lyrics written by their schoolmates. A group of F.1 and F.2 students, under the guidance of our social workers, conveyed their support by painting each F.5 big brother and sister a piece of tile with thoughtful cartoon drawing and meaning words.

Principal and teachers also expressed their words of encouragement, reminding F.5 students to sustain their effort, to properly arrange their time, to continue their sowing and to run wholeheartedly to the finishing line. In fact, the time for harvest is just a few months away. We blessed them all to get wonderful results in the HKCEE.

Teachers have already started to prepare for the graduation ceremony of our 1st batch of Form 5 graduates. Parents and guests of honour are to be invited to witness this historic moment of our school. We look forward to seeing all F 5 graduates taking their strides and walking up to the stage to receive their graduation certificates. This is sure to be unforgettable moments for all students and parents.

My appreciation has to be conveyed to all teachers for their persistence and dedication in supporting and motivating our students. We are sure that our efforts will be rewarded as we have seen our students making progress in studies, becoming more susceptible to advice, getting more mature in behaviour and more confident in presenting themselves.

Once again, we wish all Graduates all the best in future and every success in the HKCEE.

School resumes after the Chinese New Year. I wish all teachers, staff and students all the best in the year of Rooster and can accomplish your plan and fulfill your target.

Rooster symbolizes a lot of good deeds and virtues in Chinese culture. It is a symbol of kindness for roosters share food with others, a symbol for love for they take good care of their children; a symbol of courtesy for they greet people with their cackles and it is also a symbol of sense of responsibility for they perform their job unfailingly to wake people up early in the morning.

I hope students of Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College would take roosters as good models and practise two kinds of virtues which are basic and important.

First, be polite and courteous. Greet the principal, teachers, guests and fellow students you meet. In fact, greet aloud, have eye contact with the recipients of the greetings and acknowledge the presence of others are basic social skills and courtesy. It is also a demonstration of confidence.

Next, as the practice of roosters, be a responsible member of Ngan Po Ling College. Finish your homework on time and keep good plan and schedule. Besides, be responsible to keep the school clean and tidy. Upkeep the bulletin board, make it pleasing and eye catching, make your classroom a lovely place to study in.

Politeness and sense of responsibility are salient virtues in life. Live up to them and enjoy harmonious relationship and wonderful school life everyday.

November 2004 was a busy and exciting month filled with hectic schedules and historic programmes.

In the week started from 15th, 40 students from Dunman High School in Singapore, Gezhe Secondary School, Gezhe Junior and Minju Junior Secondary School from Shanghai came to Hong Kong to participate in a trilateral cultural exchange programme. This ¡¥Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong Cultural Collage¡¦ was planned for months, started with heart-warming welcome in the airport, followed by a series of memorable experiences and activities including home stays, tours to scenic spots, hip-hop dance, project work, seminars, debates, and ended with a sentimental farewell bidding. All participants immersed and enjoyed whole-heartedly in all activities. They learned and shared with friends coming from another corner of the world, polished their English and Putonghua and opened up their perspectives and vistas in life. School administrators of all the participating schools have pledged to continue the connection and more exchange programmes will be conducted in the future as we all regard such programmes bring life-long benefits and unforgettable memories to our students.

Followed the culture exchange programmes, teachers and students in Ngan Po Ling College threw themselves into earnest preparation for our 1st school anniversary celebration, the 1st Parents-Teachers Association inauguration and the school open day.

Our school was polished up and beautifully decorated. Stall games were prepared by 4 Houses and 5 core subjects: English, Mathematics, Chinese, Integrated Humanities and Integrated Science. Teachers and students worked from early in the morning till late at night. Ideas were brainstormed and efforts were injected into different aspects of work with creative output. Despite the stress and exhaustion we have had through out the process, we are awarded with praise and recognition from guests, parents and friends in education community. Through all team work and supportive moments, members of our school are more united and closely related. What enlivens us most is that we see students learn and grow.

Members of our swimming team are overwhelmed with joy for we have started off with fruitful returns in this school year. The performance in the Kowloon Schools Sports Federation Inter-School Swimming Championships and the Joint Po Leung Kuk Secondary Schools Swimming Gala is impressive. We have reaped medals, cups and trophies in different events. My sincere gratitude has to be conveyed to our coach, Mr Marco Chan, and our swimming team teacher advisor, Ms Yam Ching Yee, for their professional guidance and training provided to the team. My heartfelt thanks to all parents for their support and encouragement given to their children, to sustain their will and perseverance in perpetual and tough training.

Aesthetic and sports training, which will become part of the assessment in the education reform, contribute to character development, holistic and wholesome education. Let parents and school join hand in hand and work in sync to this direction for the healthy growth of our younger generation.
