Curriculum

We offer comprehensive curriculum to cater for different personal, academic and developmental needs of students. The curriculum design facilitates further studies, careers development and life - long learning. Our curriculum prepares students to sit for the HKDSE examination and the IB Diploma Programme.

Curriculum Structure

DSE Curriculum

To respond to intensive external changes and work in line with the senior secondary curriculum reform, we are committed to integrating 4C elements, i.e. Creativity, Critical thinking, Communication Skills, and Current Issues, across all subject curricula. Students can have generic skills and active learning attitude cultivated for challenges in the future.

To enhance bilingual and triliterate competency of students, English is the medium of instruction of most subjects. Chinese lessons in junior secondary levels are conducted in Putonghua. The subjects GCSE Chinese and French are offered to students as elective subjects.

Besides, we encourage our students to take part in external competitions in writing, drama, debate, verse speaking and storytelling. We also launch a variety of language-related programmes throughout the academic year. For instance, language weeks, English drama performance, English Musical, lunchtime forum, storytelling sessions are vibrantly carried out for motivating students to learn languages, and enriching their language skills.

To further uphold our language policy, English and Putonghua have been made official languages in our school. Students are required to communicate with teachers in English or Putonghua in school.

We have a number of award schemes and exchange programs to Singapore, new Zealand and China. Recognition is given to students with academic achievements, good conduct, active participation as well as outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities and community services. Besides, students are regularly taken on study tours to Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

In order to cater for students' diversity of learning abilities, the school has designed remedial and enhancement courses to develop their potential, particularly in the key learning areas of Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics. The school endeavours to create authentic learning environments to improve students' proficiency in Putonghua and English. Besides strengthening students' foundation in Mathematics, the school will organize an enhancement course that primarily trains students for the Mathematics Olympiad.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum

Reaching for the stars!

In times of globalization, our school has set our vision to strengthen students' international mindedness and equip them to face global challenges. Our curriculum gives opportunities to them to enhance their competitiveness by widening their career path thereby enabling them to enter not only local but also world renowned universities. Our dedicated and trained IB working committee members are striving hard to implement the IB Diploma Programme in our school in September 2014.

We are now a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College believes is important for our students.

Our student-centered, enquiry-based teaching and learning methodologies right from the junior forms cater for students’ needs to adapt to the changing local education reform requirement and international programmes. With a solid foundation laid in their junior secondary life, students can opt to choose between the local DSE and International IB curriculum for their senior secondary studies.
We shall shape our students to be principled and responsible individuals to shine not only in the external examinations and competitions but also to become competent all round global citizens.
