Objectives

Guidance

  1. To promote sunshine school environment
  2. To nurture virtues and moral values, e.g empathy, self-esteem, sense of belonging, positive attitude towards life and honesty in daily life contexts.
  3. To enhance class ethos at all levels.
  4. To help students to have balanced development in personal growth, including sex education, emotional control, parent-child relationship and social awareness

Life Education

  • Life education lesson aims at providing area for communication between teachers and students on various issues, especially topics which are beneficial to the growth and development of students. Throughout the program, talks, video sharings and experience sharings will be arranged so that students can learn through a more lively and interesting way.
  • Besides the topics scheduled at the beginning of the year, teachers can also share their experiences, viewpoints or ad hoc topics with their students during buffer lessons.

Implementation Plan

Guidance

Sunshine Program – Guidance Ambassadors (GA)
  • 2 Guidance Ambassadors will be recruited from each class
  • 6 class-based activities, which aim at boosting students’ sunshine elements, will be organized by G.A.
Sunshine Program – Wooden notice
  • Good quotes will be made into wooden notice and placed in different corners of the school.
  • Activities will be held to encourage students to pay more attention to the quotes.
Sunshine Program – Appreciating SMS
  • SMS will be sent to parents to appreciate students’ performance
Sunshine Program – Guidance Week (Theme: Sunshine to You and Me)
  • Collaborations among subjects.

Life Education

  • 10 self-reflection questions will be selected and placed in LE booklets to facilitate students’ reflection. They have to reflect on themselves every quarter
  • Class teachers will help students to reflect on themselves, and help them to be a sunshine student
  • The double spiral curriculums on personal and social education for junior and senior students are prepared, aiming at meeting developmental needs of different levels.
  • School based teacher manual and student workbook will be prepared
Hall Assembly Seminars for students
  • Seminars on “positive thinking” for F.1-F.3 and F.4-F.6 students will be held.
Preparation of ethics related reading materials for morning reading sessions
  • Two articles (one Chinese and one English) related to sunshine elements, ethics or core values will be selected monthly for morning reading sessions.
  • Inspiring questions will be designed to facilitate students to have self reflection and discussion.
  • Teachers can make use of the questions and suggested answers to generate follow up discussion in class.
Morning assembly
  • Teachers are required to share topics related to sunshine elements, ethical issues and core values. Topics will be assigned to teachers in advance.
  • Each month there will be 4 teacher sharing (2 for junior and 2 for senior).
  • Guidance Ambassadors will share once a month, focusing on the assigned core values or sunshine elements
Collaborative work of different subjects in value education
  • Value education and sunshine elements will be included in different subjects and levels.
  • Collaborative work of different subjects will be done in a table format.
F.1-F.3 2-day-1-night by-level camps
  • F.1: Problem solving skills and team building

  • F.1  “Hope” teens’ developmental project, which focuses on the enhancement of self-esteem for F.1 students

Implementation Plan
  1. To promote ethical /core values among students
    • School-based spiral curriculum for F.1 to F.6 will be designed to meet students’ developmental needs
    •  Reminding students of the importance of upholding core values and sharing of relevant experience and viewpoints by class teachers.
    •  Lessons conducted by two class teachers
  2. Better implementation of NSS curriculum
    •  Student workbook from F.1 to F.6 will be changed into English version, but the lesson will remain conducted in Cantonese.  

Teaching curriculum and schedule

  • A spiral curriculum is designed for F.1 to F.6 students, aiming to equip students with basic social and problem solving skills, based on their developmental needs.
  • The whole curriculum is categorized into five major domains, including individual, family, peer, school and society.
  • For F.1-F.3, P.A.T.H. curriculum provided and supported by the Chinese University of Hong Kong will be used, with school-based adjustment. For senior section, school-based curriculum will be selected by school social worker.
  • Peer relationship will be more emphasized in junior section. On the other hand, in senior section, individual growth, especially goal settings, will be the focus.

Co-curricular Activities

  • To collaborate with the school social worker team about the sex education topics for F.1, F.2, and F.4.
  • Programs or talks about careers development will be co-organized with Careers Guidance Team for F.5 students.
  • External agency will be invited to organize special community services and relevant preparation period for our students.
  • Special talks will be held by concerned external agency as well.
