Project Hope 2017 – Trip to Nanxiong Shaoguan

Posted on:2017/07/07

Aiming at conveying our love and care to school children in indigent regions in Guangdong province, the yearly Project Hope was successfully organized from 12th to 16th April 2017. This year, 31 students from different levels, accompanied by 4 teachers, went to Nanxiong, Shaoguan again and paid a visit to our sister school (南畝鎮九年一貫制學校) for cultural exchange and voluntary service.

This 5-day-4-night trip definitely enabled our students to perceive the disparity between their state of affluence and the primitive lifestyles of their local buddies. At the same time, the modesty, enthusiasm for learning and contentment with difficult life of the disadvantaged local young people impressed and inspired our students a lot.

Regarding the activities conducted, our students devoted themselves to voluntary service at the school for two days. Not only did our students conduct classroom teaching in English in the morning for students of senior primary and junior secondary, but also actively engaged them in mass games and extracurricular activities in the afternoon.

Apart from voluntary service, our students had two in-depth sharing and exchange sessions with their local peers followed by home visits so that they could understand each other better. During home visits, our students had a chance to taste farmhouse dishes and experience farm work. Last of all, on Day 4, we visited The Museum of Northern Expedition in which we all had good time.

On the whole, Project Hope is an experiential learning programme which is rich in national, value and moral education. Hopefully it would engage more students in the years to come. More importantly, heartfelt thanks and gratitude must be conveyed to all participants for their devotion and unfailing support, especially to our principal consultant, Dr. Hong, and Mrs. Cheung, mother of Natalie Cheung (6A1), who has been sponsoring stationery for Project Hope since 2012.
