Project Hope 2014-2015 – Trip to Nanxiong Shaoguan
Posted on:2015/06/13

Aiming at extending our love and care to the underprivileged school children in poverty-stricken villages of Guangdong province, Project Hope was successfully carried out from 25th to 29th March 2015. This year 20 mainstream students and 20 IB students together with 3 school administrators and 6 teachers went to Nanxiong Shaoguan again and paid a visit to our sister school南畝鎮九年一貫制學校 for voluntary service and cultural exchange.

With the objectives of the programme entirely accomplished, the 5-day-4-night trip provided our students with a valuable and practical opportunity to perceive the contrast between their state of plenty and the plight faced by their local buddies. In the meantime the tranquil village was definitely conducive to students’ self-reflection and life goal setting.

Regarding the activities conducted, our students devoted themselves to serving as English teachers and leading learning activities in the primary school where they were fervently welcomed by the local students and highly praised for their good English proficiency. Meanwhile, our students were deeply impressed by their local peers, especially their diligence in learning, modesty and contentment with difficult life. On top of being student teacher, our students also paid home visits to some local students after class where our students had a chance to taste farmhouse dishes and had farm field trip.

Concerning the development of Project Hope in the near future, it will be extended to our IB students and may serve as a skeleton of CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) in their IB studies. In addition to it, fund will be raised for renovating the nursery and kindergarten session of this sister school. Most importantly, heartfelt thanks and gratitude must be conveyed to all participants for their devotion and unfailing support, particularly to our school principal, Mrs. Hong, and Mrs. Cheung, mother of Natalie Cheung (4A1 3), who has been sponsoring stationery for the programme for four consecutive years.

Teacher-in-charge: Mr. Lam Cho Hon
