Objectives
AIMS
  • To pursue and equip students with geographical knowledge and skills with an emphasis on effective resource management pertinent to sustainable development of human race.
  • To develop comprehensive mindset with the enrichment of geographical sense;
  • To recognize and understand the arrangement of phenomena and features on Earth as well as the inter-relationship and interaction among people, places and environments from spatial and ecological perspectives;
  • To develop geographical skills and basic competencies for further studies and life situations;
  • To apply geographical knowledge and skills acquired for the betterment of individuals, the society, the nation and the world;
  • To arouse a sense of environmental conservation;
  • To enhance students’ awareness of global issues so as to prepare them for becoming global citizens to face the increasing global challenges;
  • To provide better bridge for the NSS LS curriculum.

Effective Teaching and Learning

Implementation

  • Proper expectation placed on students
  • Tight control over assignment quality and assessment outcome
  • Meaningful feedback given, especially for essay writing
  • More I.T. resources to demonstrate geological features
  • Constructive feedback in students’ assignment to provoke their thinking for improvement and encourage them to respond to teachers’ feedback
  • Implementation of using GIS software (e.g. ArcView GIS, Google Map)

Achieve better NSS result

Implementation

  • Focus on ethical values in subject (i.e. environmental conservation)
  • Map reading skills at junior levels
  • More exposure to the outside world by joining activities outside school
  • Proper training in communication skills, especially presentation skills and writing skills 
  • More useful references and practice books available in class library
  • Students’ interest in the subject and current issues is cultivated through news discussion and sharing
  • More chances to take part in external activities and competitions
  • More effective field trip

  • Strict use of English as MOI
  • Use of English during fieldtrip
  • Students are encouraged to use English when conducting interview
  • Spending time on helping students learn subject-specific words
  • When students face difficulties in understanding English, teachers should use simpler words or sentences to explain
  • When students use Cantonese to ask questions, teachers should request them to ask again in English
