Objectives

To get students exposed to English as a second language in a language rich environment, which provides further opportunities for extending knowledge and experience, including opportunities for further studies, pleasure, and work in the English Medium.

  • To broaden and deepen the language competencies students have developed through basic primary education, so that they are able to use English with increasing proficiency for personal and intellectual development, effective social interaction, further study, vocational training, work and pleasure;
  • To further develop their interest and confidence in using English as their understanding and mastery of the English language growth;
  • To further broaden their knowledge, understanding and experience of various cultures in which English is used by raising learners' sensitivity to language use, their cultural awareness, and their creativity and critical thinking with the exposure to a variety of genres.
  • To develop and prepare themselves for further study; and
  • To further develop learning how to learn skills, and positive values and attitudes conducive to meeting the needs of our rapidly changing knowledge-based society. These include the interpretation, use and production of texts for pleasure, study and work in the English medium.
  • To enhance learners' English proficiency through the cultivation of a reading habit.

Major Concerns

  • Cultivating effective teaching methodologies and active learning habits by means of
      • a school-based grammar and vocabulary syllabus at all levels
      • sample essays as writing input at all levels
      • online recording assignment at all levels
      • online reading program
      • regular short quizzes (once a cycle)
      • after-class tutorials and lunch time oral practices for Form 6 and Form 7 students
      • adjusting marking code to highlight and to make students more aware of accuracy in writing
      • fostering a habit of keeping a vocabulary book among students
      • legible handwriting in assignment
  • Better implementation of the NSS curriculum and getting good achievements in double cohort year by means of
      • a school-based language arts, reading curriculum and SBA at junior forms
      • Downshifting the proposed Senior Secondary 2 curriculum to Senior Secondary 1 (e.g. conducting 2 SBA assessments and having introductory sessions on the chosen elective modules at Senior Secondary 1) and the Senior Secondary 1 curriculum to Junior Secondary 3
      • More frequent mock practices for F6 and F7 students
      • More frequent drillings on past papers of HKCEE and HKALE for F6 students
      • Accurate estimation of students’ performance in public examinations at an earlier stage

 

  • Enhancing the EMI environment by means of
      • Maintaining all current practices including morning assembly presentations, lunch time presentation sessions, open forums, reading aloud program and ELA scheme with reasonable modifications to make sure the effectiveness and attractiveness of activities so that students can be more motivated and find the activities more meaningful and appealing
      • Sharing the extra workload among all devoted panel members
  • Cultivating sunshine and caring school ethos, and instill positive, energetic and dynamic school atmosphere among students by means of
      • Careful selection and tailor-made teaching materials (such as poems, articles, short passages) which show students the important values and positive attitudes in life
      • Weekly news articles about the importance of key values in life such as social responsibilities, honesty, respect, politeness, positive attitudes and being responsible
      • Assigning short writing topics on moral values and giving students chances to introspect and reflect on their wrongdoings.
